Range Rules

Rules

  1. BE AWARE OF YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND THOSE AROUND YOU!
  2. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction.
  3. Keep finger off trigger until ready to shoot.
  4. Don't load your firearm until on the firing line and ready to shoot.
  5. Don't handle a firearm when anyone is downrange.
  6. Don't move beyond the firing line until a "cease fire" has been called and the range is confirmed by everyone to be "cold"!
  7. Always wear hearing and eye protection. Always ensure others on the firing line are ready for the line to go "hot" and have ample time to get their hearing and eye protection in place.
  8. Do not break the 180' from directly downrange (90' left to 90' right) when firing.
  9. Special rules at the individual ranges are posted.

Range Regulations

1.       RANGE HOURS: The range is available for use from sunrise until sunset, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

2.       Each member must swipe in and out at the gate for every visit to the range regardless if the gate is open or closed.  Do not allow unknown persons in other vehicles to tailgate, in order to gain access to the range. Pull forward enough to clear the gate and allow it to close behind your vehicle preventing unauthorized access.

3.       Your range access card is to be used only by the authorized club member. Allowing any other person including a family  member to use your access card to enter the range is strictly forbidden and is subject to termination of your membership.

4.       Members may bring up to 2 guests per visit. Individuals are allowed to visit the range as a guest once per year. Member is responsible for the behavior of their guests and guests must remain with the member at all times while on the range. Family members may accompany the CAGC member to the range at any time. These are defined as a spouse and children under age 19. The CAGC member must accompany your family members and guests on the range, at all times.

5.       Eye protection is MANDATORY on the CAGC range once you leave your vehicle or outside a building even if you are not shooting. Ear protection must be worn by those actively shooting or by those in the immediate area of the shooter.

6.       Each shooter must clean up after shooting by depositing all used targets, trash, and backers in the proper receptacles before leaving the range. We are all volunteers and are not paid to clean up after you.

7.       Vision barriers/walls, barrels, tables, barricades, sandbags, target stands, signs, etc. are not to be intentionally shot. Violation is considered vandalism and will be treated harshly.

8.       CAGC is a cold range. No loaded weapons may be handled except on a firing line. All guns should be holstered, flagged, or bagged when not on a firing line. After loading, the firearm must be pointed downrange toward the backstop at all times. Do not break the 180-degree plane respective to the rear berm at any time with a loaded weapon.

9.       Rifles, shotguns, and pistols may be fired in all of the pistol pits EXCEPT FOR the steel plate pits. No aerial shots except from shotguns allowed on any range.

10.    No steel targets may be shot from a distance closer than 10 yards with a pistol or 50 yards with a rifle. Absolutely no rifles or shouldered weapons of ANY caliber allowed on the steel plate bays in the pistol pits. NO CENTER FIRE WEAPONS OF ANY CALIBER ARE TO BE FIRED AGAINST THE STEEL IN THOSE PITS DESIGNATED FOR RIMFIRE WEAPONS.

11.    Firing at glass, computer equipment, CDs/DVDs, concrete, or any other object that creates litter or debris is strictly forbidden except for stationary clay birds which may be placed on the berms.

12.    POSITION ALL TARGETS SO THAT ALL BULLETS SAFELY IMPACT INTO THE BERMS. DO NOT SHOOT AT ANYTHING PLACED ON THE GROUND AS DANGEROUS RICHOCHETS MAY OCCUR. Targets must be set so as to ensure that all bullets impact in such a way that they stay on the property and cause no safety problem. This requires that targets be set so that the top of the target is below the top of the berm which must be immediately behind the target. If shooting kneeling or prone your target height will need to be adjusted accordingly. Being a member of CAGC does not give you permission to discharge firearms haphazardly. If used properly, no rounds will exit any range. If a round leaves the range from YOUR gun, YOU are responsible for where that round lands and the injury or damage it may cause.

13.    When you arrive at any of the rifle ranges check to make sure no one is downrange checking targets. Only after you have verified the range is clear downrange may you unpack your firearms and set up your bench. When going downrange use the range condition commands to indicate cease fire or live fire in progress. Cold is cease fire, hot is live fire in progress.

14.    RIFLE RANGE CEASE FIRE RULE: All members must work together to go downrange to check or change targets at the same time. Please talk to each other and try to reach a viable accommodation. The rule however is as follows: The cease fire rule is in effect every time someone wants to go down range.

15.    Only practice tips may be used on the archery range. Absolutely no broad heads

 or razor tips allowed.

16.    No incendiary ammunition, tracer rounds, exploding targets, or fireworks

 are allowed on any range.

17.    No hunting is permitted on CAGC property.

18.    You are encouraged to bring children to the range to shoot. They must be knowledgeable and able to show understanding of the four safety rules of gun handling. Children must be kept under supervision at all times and are never permitted to play on any of the ranges, whether they are in use or not.

19.    Do not shoot at less than 150 yards at the 300-yard Ragland range. Do not move steel targets at the 100- or 300-yard range.

Failure to observe these safety rules and those indicated on range signage, all of which are put in place for the protection of CAGC, its members, guests, and the community may, at the discretion of the Board of Directors, result in the revocation of your membership.
